Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast (general)

This week, in a shocking twist, we discover that there is a heavy metal horror movie from the year of our lord 1988 that ALLEN HAS NOT SEEN. How can this be? Regardless, we're remedying the situation by watching and discussing "Black Roses," available on Shudder. Special topics for your consideration include: shitty 80s moms and dads, really pushing the limits of how old an actor can be and still play a teen, kicking off a worldwide tour with four nights at the Mill Basin High School auditorium, a question not of whether there are tits but in fact whose tits they are, and demon nards.

Heavy metal horror: it's a thing! I'm lumping a lot of stuff into this category, so please enjoy Episode 13- "Phantom of the Paradise," Episode 38- "The Gate," Episode 175- "House of 1000 Corpses," Episode 176- "Strangeland,"Episode 199- "Terrorvision," Episode 200- "Trick or Treat," and Episode 242- "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors."

In this week's episode, we decided to see what all the fuss was about with the new Netflix release "Fear Street Part One: 1994." Special topics for your consideration include: a lot of strong opinions about 90s rock, a lot of strong opinions about 90s fashion and the revisionist history therein, teen television: is it for us? (probably?), early internet usage, and kids? Listen to Soundgarden.

We're gonna do this like the "Hell House LLC" trilogy, covering the next movie in two weeks. If you'd like to hear us talk about that absolutely delightful franchise, they are Episodes 254, 256, and 258.

In this week's episode, we're discussing one of the finest vampire films of all time in my (Katie's) humble opinion, though we realized about halfway through recording it that we were kinda just laughing about it. We're talking about the 1987 Kathryn Bigelow-directed film "Near Dark." Special topics for your consideration include: just trying to imagine being insanely beautiful, the utter horrors of child vampires, another tally in the "horses are smarter than us and ready to destroy us at a moment's notice" column, Bill Paxton in all of his weird clown glory, and a possible new business venture Allen devised.

There are one brazilian vampire movies in the world. Here are some of them: Episode 22- "Fright Night," Episode 70- "30 Days of Night," Episode 89- "Queen of the Damned," Episode 136- "The Lost Boys," Episode 153- "The Hunger," Episode 163- "Let the Right One In," Episode 190- "Interview with a Vampire," Episode 195- "What We Do in the Shadows," Episode 210- "From Dusk til Dawn," Episode 241- "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," Episode 310- "Among the Shadows," and Episode 317- "Dracula 2000." WHEWWWW.

In this week's episode, we're talking farms and sheeps and the great outback with the 2006 New Zealand horror comedy "Black Sheep," not to be confused with the extremely popular American 1996 non-horror comedy of the same name. Special topics for  your consideration include: environmental activist conspiracy theories, farm talk from two people who know next to nothing about farming, the absolute joy that comes from watching a sheep drive a truck, the fact that the plural of 'sheep' is ABSOLUTELY 'sheeps' and an extremely special musical number at the end of the episode-- stick around for it!

Into horror films from New Zealand? May we recommend Episode 78- "Housebound" and Episode 195- "What We Do in the Shadows," both of which were movies that we absolutely loved?

In this week's very special episode, we are returning to a film we covered early in our podcasting career- the 1985 horror comedy "Return of the Living Dead." Special topics for your consideration include: revisiting old jokes and writing better new jokes, the national treasure that is Linnea Quigley, the national weirdo that is Glenn Danzig, extremely bleak things in an extremely comedic film, the return of Clu Gulager and movie punks, of course we're talking about movie punks.

If you missed our original "Return of the Living Dead" episode, it sounds like it's not worth revisiting. If you must, it's Episode 17. Want more Linnea Quigley? You could check out Episode 9- "Silent Night, Deadly Night" (which we feel may actually be our worst episode ever), Episodes 192- "Night of the Demon" and Episode 265- "Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama."

Thanks to everyone who wrote in with their impressions of this film, we really loved reading all of your thoughts.

In this week's episode, we're getting back into the folk horror genre with the 2018 film "Apostle," a Netflix production. Special topics for your consideration include: a dirty and glowering Dan Stevens, cult recruitment tactics, using a standard-issue receptacle incorrectly, blaming god for literally everything, and the fact that folk horror is always going to be compared to "The Wicker Man."

If you are into "The Wicker Man," please listen to Episode 108 (the Nic Cage remake) and Episode 271 (the original). Want to check out some other folk/pastoral horror? We did a whole month of it in March 2020: Episode 270- "Midsommar," Episode 272- "Village of the Damned" and Episode 273- "Black Death," an incredibly poorly timed saga into a plague because we are utter dumdums. We also discussed "The Village" in Episode 169.

In this week's episode and in honor of Pride Month, we're discussing what the internet described as "the gayest horror movie of all time." It's the second entry into the "Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise, "Freddy's Revenge." Special topics for your consideration include: wanting to be good allies but also being mad at corporations, the concept of subtext (say it with me now, SUB-TEXT), generalized confusion about Freddy (is he a demon? a ghost? just a pest? Was he ever a school janitor? Is he both in dreams and the real world? Is it okay to just call him Fred?) and the power of love.

Are you a fan of this franchise? Episode 4 covers the original, but you may also like the 4th film, Episode 121- "Dream Child," and the 3rd film, Episode 242- "Dream Warriors." Why cover a franchise in chronological order when you can do it this way and feign outrage about not understanding anything?

In this week's episode, we discover that a crappy book is likely to make a crappy movie with the 2008 adaptation "The Ruins." Special topics for your consideration include: a running theme of terrible doctors named Jeff, our inability to keep a running pun throughout an episode (but also, some pretty siiiick plant-related puns), secretly wishing for vines to grow under one's skin, never wanting to travel with an Amy, and the worst choices. Just...just the worst choices.

Sometimes the outdoors is the worst bad guy of all. If you agree, you might also enjoy such episodes as Episode 12- "The Happening," Episode 152- "Anaconda," Episode 168- "Arachnophobia," Episode 193- "Orca" and Episode 238- "Frogs."

In this week's episode, we tackle perhaps our most boob-heavy film of all time: the 1990 Frank Henenlotter horror/comedy/exploitation film "Frankenhooker." Special topics for your consideration include: an extremely loose interpretation of Mary Shelley, a substantial amount of science mumbling, the beauty that is "Basket Case," misremembering films of your youth, delightful puppetry and Zombie Teddy Ruxpin vs. Zombie Skippy Scribbles.

This movie feels like a bit of a mashup of several other films we've discussed: Episode 29- "Re-Animator," Episode 199- "Terrorvision," and "Basket Case," which was our guest appearance on the excellent podcast Neon Brainiacs. It's their Episode 52 and you can hear it at https://neonbrainiacs.libsyn.com/53-basket-case-1982 or wherever you listen to podcasts. Oh, and the "Black Hole Sun" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3mbBbFH9fAg

Well, is this the scarecrow film we've been waiting for? I'm actually not sure and for that, I apologize. Regardless, we're talking about it! This week's movie is the 2010 film "Husk." Special topics for your consideration include: knowing basically everything you know about corn from "Field of Dreams," burlap: a terrifying fabric, wishing for the death of Baby & Baby, odd crow behavior and confusing dream sequences.

Did you miss our first attempt at a scarecrow movie? It's Episode 237- "Scarecrow." Just...just really into corn? How about Episode 59- "Children of the Corn"?
